C.A.R.E. Winter Dance?
Back in 2011, the senior class that year held a “Vice Versa” winter dance. They mostly held the dance for the students to have a good night, but also they wanted to raise money, which is what many school events are for.
Last year, the winter dance, which was semi-formal, was sponsored by the Students to Students club. As fun as that dance sounds, it wasn’t a hit as many thought it would be and raised only a few hundred dollars.
“I was highly disappointed at last year’s winter dance. It wasn’t as fun as I thought it would be,” Former UHS Student Ashlyn Greene said.
This year, the C.A.R.E wants to hold a winter formal. The co-president of C.A.R.E., Kaitlyn Breitenfeldt, has said that all the money raised from the dance will be donated to the Champaign County Humane Society. Since the C.A.R.E. is the Club for Animal Respect and Education, it is important for the club to raise as much money as possible for much of the orphaned animals.
“It costs over $2000 to run the Humane Society for a day, so that’s our goal for fundraising this year,” said Hannah Mohr, co-president of C.A.R.E.
The dance is to be called “Glow Dance” since the club will try and allow the students to bring glow sticks and glow accessories. If students do not have any, the club is willing to provide those students with some.
“We have some awesome DJ’s coming with some cool lights,” said Breitenfeldt. According to the club, they have contacted a few DJ’s but still have no certain DJ.
The dance has not been approved yet, but the dance is in the process of being approved by the administration. Right now, C.A.R.E. is really hoping to get this dance approved so the club name can be put out and students can get interested in the club. Most of all C.A.R.E wants the funding to go to the Humane Society and to help animals have respectful owners again.
