Ann Yarber: Retiring From Urbana High School
Yarber adored her job. “I like teaching; I like watching the freshmen grow before my eyes,” Yarber said.
Yarber said the part she loves most about her job is “how much the students change over those four years.”
After teaching at UHS for so long, people might think Yarber has a particular memory that sticks out, but she doesn’t. “I have so many memories I could look back on and smile,” she said.
Yarber will miss her job and students, but she said, “I’ll be back; I’m going to sub a little.”
Yarber was quite the teacher and many adored her.
Travis Courson, assistant principal, worked with Yarber for years, and he said, “she holds her students accountable but in a way they know she is doing it in their best interest.”
Ms. Yarber does her job and does it very well.
Joseph Kirby, junior, said, “I like that she pushes us.”
Yarber wants what is best for her students, and that is why she makes sure they do their best. Sometimes, to do their best, students have to know the truth.
“She kept it real. She would put you in place when needed; she would let you know who was boss,” Netta Singleton, junior, said.
Ms. Yarber is a great teacher who is very loveable. “I love her personality; I love the fact that she’s always smiling,” Courson said.
The staff loves her famous sayings. “Ya mama,” Steve Waller, UHS dean, said.
The staff didn’t just love her sayings, the students did too. “Yarber, small gym!” Singleton said.
After Yarber leaves she has a lot planned.
“I’m going to travel. I’m going to the Virgin Islands; I’m going to Hawaii; I’m going to Rio De Janeiro; I’m going to see the Grand Canyon. I got a lot of things I want to do. I’m going to do some volunteer work. I’m going to sub occasionally, but I’m going to travel and have fun. I’m getting ready to follow out my bucket list” Yarber said.
We do appreciate your time here, Yaber. You, your personality, and your sayings will be missed. The UHS family wishes you the best of luck.
