UHS Homecoming 2012
“I think it’s too soon and need more time along with the parade,” said Junior Alexandria Richardson, best epitomizing the view of a large swathe of the student body at Urbana High School.
However, early homecoming does have its advantages, as students do not have to wait quite as long for the much beloved and eagerly anticipated homecoming dance.
Sophomore Yessica Bedolla said “I can’t wait for homecoming because it’s new memories to build.”
“I think it’s pretty cool having homecoming early, it’s just different from last year’s when it was in October” said Sophomore Tamera Allen. “I’m looking forward to homecoming because I want to see all my friends.”
According to Mrs. Perez, “students can look forward to a new DJ [this year] in the UHS community. We are going to be continuing the theme from the parade, which is ‘Zap the Chargers’ and will be having lots of lights and will be giving away glow sticks. Students usually have a great time at homecoming, dancing the night away with their friends” said Mrs. Perez.
Along with the upperclassmen, there are also many freshmen who can’t wait to attend their first high school homecoming dance.
Freshman Heidi Pierce told the Echo, “I’m excited for homecoming because I’ve heard it’s really fun and everyone has told me great things about it”.
Some, like Senior Patricia Mixon, felt that this year’s homecoming could use some new music that students enjoy and listen to on a daily basis, such as songs by artists like Justin Bieber, Rihanna, Drake, Nicki Minaj, and Big Sean.
“[Last year] the music was boring and nobody danced at all,” said Mixon.
The dance will be held on September 22nd at 7:30 in the schools cafeteria, with tickets costing $15.
The Echo looks forward to seeing you there!
