Spring Fashion/Trend Watch!
This season, colors are ranging from light nudes to pretty pastels–focusing on lavenders, mint greens, and corals. These hues are perfect for showing off a dewy glow, eventually turning into a darker tan for summer. Marni’s spring/summer 2012 collection features a vast array of beautiful pastel colors, setting the stage for a luxe spring pallet. As for fabrics–cotton and silk are popular choices for tops and skirts, as they are light and airy and easy to move around in.
A huge spring 2012 trend is the pleated silk skirt–simple and elegant, though it can also be dressed down with a crop top, skinny belt, and sandals. But if this skirt isn’t quite for you, maybe the peplum skirt is! Featured in Vera Wang’s spring collection, the peplum design is the gathering of some extra fabric around the top of an otherwise straight-cut skirt, contouring around the sides and poofing out in a fun, cutesy way. This is a great piece to give you some adventurous spring style!
Not so much of a skirt girl? Don’t fret! Mckenzie Kirby, 2011 UHS graduate who was named “Best Dressed,” says, “I’d say my favorite spring trend is colored skinny jeans in pale colors like lavender, mint green, and coral.” These jeans are a wonderful way to stay comfy and chic, while sporting the hot new spring colors!
There are also some great new trends that can be carried into the scalding summer months. Dolce & Gabbana’s spring 2012 Milan collection heavily features the crop top or bra top–perfect for warm weather. It’s a printed or colored tank, cut off around the bottom of the rib cage or a little above the waist. This style is usually paired with high-waisted shorts or a skirt, and is a classy way to show a little skin while staying modest.
While pastels seem to be the color of the season, prints are a huge influence on the spring collections. Designers such as Emilio Pucci and Balmain are featuring tons of prints in their designs–whether they be pants, bra tops, mini dresses, or maxi skirts. Bright prints seem to never escape the runway in the spring and summer, making them a wardrobe essential!
Our last spring trend is dip-dye hair. Although this is not a fashion item, dip dye is quickly becoming one of the most popular hairstyles in the past five years. Dip dye is the process of essentially dipping the tips of one’s hair in a bright, fun color. For example, blondes may choose to have pink or lavender tips at the bottom of their hair, and brunettes may opt for turquoise or deep blue, to complement their dark hair. No matter which color you choose, dip dye is for the daring trendsetter who wants to really prepare their scalp for spring!
So let’s sum up our 2012 spring trend report. We’ve got pastel colors, pleated & peplum skirts, colored jeans, crop tops, bright prints, and dip dye. Hopefully at least one of these great spring finds will make its way into your closet. Have a great spring!
