Don Owen
Don Owen began his work in Urbana School District 116 over 20 years ago as an after school program site coordinator at Wiley elementary school. After working through several positions in the district, such as a history teacher at the middle school for 13 years, he has now accepted the exciting new position of our district superintendent.
As the superintendent, he will take on the responsibilities of leading the district in terms of curriculum, overseeing assessments from a state to local level, and many other tasks.
Owen is looking forward to the new position and is very excited about what the job includes.
“I enjoy working with people, from students and parents to community partners,” said Owen.
He is very proud of the Urbana School District and all the things it has done.
“I’m proud of our incredibly diverse community and how it works together. I am also proud of our students’ accomplishments, from Young Authors at the elementary level, to athletics at a high school level,” he said.
Owen is also proud of our academic achievements, including a high graduation rate. His goals for the position include “increasing student and family involvement, and engaging community partners to provide fun and innovative things for students to do, and engaging the community in the education of the students.”
Don Owen is a long time member of this community and school district, and it will be exciting to see him take the office of the Urbana School District 116 Superintendent, and fulfill the goals he has for our schools and community. To see Urbana High School Broadcasting’s interview with
