What Would we do Without the Internet?
“I guess I’d just read. I mean it would be harder to check out books at the library, but the books would still be there. I would just miss the typing I can do on my computer, and I would miss YouTube, but I have a Walkman so I wont be without music,” said Freshman Brianna Coulter.
Many people would have this reaction; the reaction that even though we’re used to having computers and Internet, we would get by without it.
But many other people would have different reactions.
“Well first I would call Ms. Ludwick and see if her Internet or computer was working,” said Teacher Thomas Neal.
“Then I would watch the news. Then I would go to the bank and get out all my money, and then I would go home and freak out.” Many people would have this rare and same reaction and freak out.
“We would all probably go into crazy mode because computers control our planes and satellites, and they would come crashing to the ground and kill a bunch of people,” said Senior Sage Russell.
This is the “Omg how in the world will we live without computers and Internet- everyone’s going to die” reaction that most teenagers and young adults would show. It is true that a lot of things would change if the computers and Internet just crashed and stopped working. But it is also true that even though we wouldn’t have something we’re very dependent on, we would live on without it.
“Hmm….no Internet. That’s a very interesting question, I guess I would be quite lost. I mean come on, almost every teenager uses the Internet,” said Freshman Elizabeth Coffman-Mackey. “I am one of those who uses the Internet almost everyday, and when I don’t use the Internet I feel very bored.”
Eighty-seven percent of teenagers use the Internet daily and without the Internet, teenagers wouldn’t be able to do a lot of the things they usually do (http://www.bamaed.ua.edu/edtechcases/case1.html)
“I use the Internet to go and read fanfition, to research stuff for my homework, to keep up with my friends, to put my writing/videos out for other people to see, and I use it to listen to music,” said Sophomore Tori Washington. “Without music almost all teenagers would probably get very unnerving.”
There would be many reactions such as the “we would get by without the computers and internet,” and the “do what we need to do now, freak out later” reactions. And then the “omg how in the world are we going to live without computers” reaction. There would be many different reactions. So in the end, the reactions are mostly depending on how old the person is, and how often the person is on the computer.
Keep in mind that if we didn’t have internet, you wouldn’t be reading me right now.
