2011 Homecoming Week Festivities
In the hallways of Urbana High School, the month of October always seems to bring an air of excitement and a flutter of fun to the daily school experience. October is the annual host of Homecoming Week, a high school experience that one should never miss.
This year, Homecoming Week promises to be as entertaining as ever. The themes for the 2011-2012 days are as follows: Twin Tuesday, Halloween Wednesday, and the traditional Class Color Thursday and School Spirit Friday.
What are students’ reactions to the homecoming week selections?
Senior Andreea Zaharescu said,“I think the selections for this year’s homecoming week are great! I really like the idea of Twin Tuesday because my friends and I can dress up together, as we’ve always wanted to.”
Homecoming Week is a traditional celebration that occurs throughout the week before the Homecoming football game and Homecoming dance. Students are able to show school spirit and express creativity in a fun, school-safe way. Zaharescu said, “Homecoming Week is a great tradition in
Urbana High School because it brings students together and shows how original and creative students can be.”
What other enjoyable experiences can be expected from Homecoming week?
There’s the pep assembly, when students of all grades come together in the gym and find entertainment in playing friendly class versus class games together. When asked what plans and surprises were in store for this year’s pep assembly, Student Senate co-president and Junior Kayla Estes said, “ Right now were in the midst of planning the pep assembly games and we will be choosing who will participate in the games. As for surprises, expect to have fun!”
Besides the pep assembly and themed weekdays, student will also be able to go to the Homecoming Parade, in which clubs and organizations of UHS will be able to display their pride on floats. They also will have the opportunity to attend tailgreat, the outdoor get-together prior to the Homecoming Game. At the tailgreat, students can participate in games and visit club stands.
This year’s Homecoming week is sure to be one of the most memorable and fun-filled for all students. “Homecoming Week is a good tradition, it gives all of us school spirit and I wouldn’t want to have it any other way,” said Estes.
