Welcome back students and staff of UHS! Winter Break 2010-11 was a cold and fun break for the UHS students, but that also depended on where you went. Many students stayed in town, but many also took trips over this two-week break. Students traveled all over the country.

Junior Scott Blanck drove up to Iowa for New Year’s weekend to see some of his family. “I love going up and seeing my two little nieces. Also getting to visit my sister and brother-in-law; it’s always great going to visit them,” said Scott, “The best place we went to was an ice cream place called Whitey’s- it’s the best.”

Many students traveled more east or west; Freshman Maeva O’brien went to South Carolina to visit some family, including an uncle from Japan. “Nothing really exciting happened,” Maeva said, “But the weather was nice- 50s and 60s the whole week we were there.”

Freshman Macio Zelip also traveled to one of the Carolinas. He went to warm North Carolina all break to visit family. “We got to wear shorts and t-shirts the whole time,” said Zelip. What was his favorite part of the trip? “When my family had a family party, we danced to bachata music.” Zelip also said he got to see his cousin who lives out of the country.

Taking a look back up north again, Zach Heinricher and his sister, senior Katie Heinricher, were up in Minnesota visiting family for a week. There was lots of snow up there, which “made mad snowboarding fun,” said Zach. What was the most fun part of the trip? “Christmas dinner; seeing all the family that was there,” commented Zach. “SLEEP,” Katie exclaimed, “And staying out until three a.m.”

Lani Belton and her UHS alum brother, Niall Belton, visited their dad in Michigan. “It snowed everyday we were there except two,” commented Lani. The most fun thing she said they did there was “skiing, going to a gym that was similar to the ARC, hiking, and site seeing.”

Overall, Winter Break 2010-11 was a safe and enjoyed one; there were not many accidents that occurred to the students and staff of UHS. The school’s next big break is Spring Break 2011, which will be March 21-25. We’ll be counting down the days!
