Top Songs of 2010
The past year was the year of the music.
In 2010, many new and different artists came out with songs that are upbeat, fun and exciting to listen to. Artists new and old took America by storm in the past year.
New artists like Enrique Iglesias, Wale and Bruno Mars have become popular among many young adults; not to mention older artists like Katy Perry, Drake, NIcki Minaj, Eminem, and Ke$ha.
According to billboard.com, the top ten songs of 2010 are as follows:
1. Tik Tok- Ke$ha
2. Need You Now- Lady Antebellum
3. Hey, Soul Sister- Train
4. California Gurls- Katy Perry ft. Snoop Dogg
5. OMG- Usher ft. will.i.am

7. Love the Way You Lie- Eminem ft. Rihanna
8. Bad Romance- Lady GaGa
9. Dynamite- Taio Cruz
10. Break Your Heart- Taio Cruz
Many students were asked for their opinions on the number one song of 2010, TIk Tok by Ke$ha. Urbana High School Freshman, Chanise Wilkerson’s quote pretty much sums up most opinions. “That’s my jam! All of the kids loved it and could relate to it.”
The top five pop songs of 2010 were similar to the top ten. The songs that made the top five are as follows:
1. Tik Tok- Ke$ha
2. Airplanes- B.o.B. ft. Hayley Williams
3. Bad Romance- Lady GaGa
4. Dynamite- Taio Cruz
5. California Gurls- Katy Perry
The top five R&B songs were:
1. Unthinkable- Alicia Keys
2. There goes my baby- Usher
3. It Kills Me- Melanie Fiona
4. Everything to Me- Monica
5. Say Aah- Trey Songz
The top five country songs were:

5. The Man I Want to Be- Chris Young
The top five rap songs were:
1. Nothin’ On You- B.o.B.
2. Bedrock- Young Money Entertainment
3. Over- Drake
4. How Low- Ludacris
5. Say Something- Timbaland ft. Drake
The top album of the year was “Recovery” by Eminem.
Kaitlyn Breitenfeldt and Evelyn Luna, both UHS sophomores, feel the same when it comes to singer, Bruno Mars. When asked what the best song of 2010 was, in their individual opinions, they said “Grenade” and “Just the Way You Are”. Both songs are by Bruno Mars.
Wilkerson favored rap music when she spoke of the best songs of 2010. “No Hands” by Wocka Flocka Flame ft. Roscoe Dash and Wale; and “Black and Yellow” by Wiz Khalifa were among her list of the greatest songs.
Luna, when asked which artists should continue making music, and who should stop, said, “The ones that should definitely keep going would be Drake, Rihanna, Bruno Mars, Katy Perry, and Linkin Park. The ones that should stop are Kanye West and Taylor Swift.”
Breitenfeldt feels the same as some other Urbana High School students. When asked the same question, she said that Lady GaGa and Justin Bieber should stop making music.
Although Breitenfeldt, and many others, feel this way, both artists have songs that have made it to the top ten in the Billboard Hot 100, proving that most of America think these artists have talent and enjoy their music.
Unfortunately, we can’t have all the information on the music of 2010, but these are a few of the thoughts and feelings on the most popular songs.
The biggest thing is, 2011 has a lot to live up to in terms of music.
Enrique Iglesias is an older artist. Haha.
This is very true, BUT his new song was a big hit. And he did not have that many songs in the Top 40 before, so he was included as a new artist. Thanks for your input though.
an older artist? i would have never known! his big hit definitely made him more popular. that song is awesome
I love Enrique!!! Though i am surprised that Bruno Mars didn’t make the list some of his songs are very popular.
The striking lack of rock and roll on these lists is disappointing to me >:\
Why is it that Rock & Roll always gets snubbed in things like this? It’s funny how Rock & Roll started in America but now is almost completely ignored in the popular tastes-and yet over in Britain it’s the main thing you’ll hear on the radio. Seriously these artists work hard too, give them some credit too.
