Twilight Series Review
Twilight began to win the hearts of young people worldwide with the release of the first book, Twilight by Stephenie Meyer, in October 2005.
Five years later and the saga has been turned into a series of movies. The last book, Breaking Dawn, will be divided into two films, with the first of the two releasing November 18, 2011.
Twilight
Twilight had an excellent plot, but the chosen actors were not living up to the characters we’ve all come to know and love in the saga.
The main characters were played by Kristen Stewart (Bella Swann), Robert Pattinson (Edward Cullen), Taylor Lautner (Jacob Black), Peter Facinelli (Carlisle Cullen), Ashley Greene (Alice Cullen), Nikki Reed (Rosalie Hale), Kellan Lutz (Emmett Cullen), Jackson Rathebone (Jasper Hale), and Elizabeth Reaser (Esme Cullen).
The Cullen family were played by Pattinson, Facinelli, Greene, Reed, Lutz, Rathbone, and Reaser.
In the book, Edward and Bella have really intense conversations; conversations so intense, they make the hair on your neck stand up. In the movie, the conversations were ordinary, seemingly insignificant because of the lack of emotion in the words.
Many of the actors spoke in an monotone voice, making the movie a bore to sit through. If it weren’t for the fantastic plot, the movie would have been a complete snooze-fest.
The most exciting part of the movie should have been when Bella was getting chased out of Forks, Washington by the bad vampires. Instead, it was the beginning of the movie, where there was anticipation on how the movie might turn out.
New Moon
The second installment of the Twilight saga was slightly more interesting than the first. The acting was a bit more passionate, although Kristen Stewart still gave Bella a monotone voice, making her slightly hard to believe when she was upset.
The best part of the movie was when Bella and Alice were running to Italy to save Edward from getting himself killed by the Volturi. The anticipation was felt through the television screen, you could feel how Bella was desperate to save Edward, even if it cost her own life.
The worst part was when Edward broke up with Bella and left town. Edward was supposed to say his lines very passionately, to make Bella believe them. He said them like he was saying what he wanted for dinner.
Bella, however, made the moment believable. She made it obvious the love of her life was breaking up with her. She made the scene possible. Without her performing in that scene, it would have been the worst possible moment in movie history.
Eclipse
Eclipse was the best out of the first three movies. The acting was great, the plot was beautiful, and everyone did their part.
It begins with Victoria, the bad vampire out to kill Bella, creating an army of lethal, newborn vampires to battle the Cullens for Bella’s life.
The whole movie is surrounded by this plan, and the wolf pack and the Cullen’s prepare to fight the vampires.
The battle scenes were perhaps the best part of the movie. At times, they moved in slow motion, then abruptly sped up, making for an excellent way to show the stunts.
Another good part of the movie was when Edward and Jacob had a “heart-to-heart” talk. They got inside each other’s head, and poor Jacob realized he would never have Bella, and that she was Edward’s only.
At the end, the Cullen’s won over the newborn vampires and Bella was safe. Now, she has a bit more time to hide from the Volturi.
Breaking Dawn Expectations
The last and longest book, Breaking Dawn is expected to be like fireworks- a big bang to end Twilight Mania.
Breaking Dawn should have it all- special effects, the whole story, Bella and Jacob’s point-of-view chapters.
In my opinion, the movie won’t be good if it doesn’t include all aspects of the book.
The book has a really big ending- marriage, a baby, and the final Volturi showdown. I expect the movie to be the same
Very insightful and well thought out. It gave me a different perspective on the twilight saga.
that was cool
Very well thought, I haven’t been a fan but it gives a different look at the books.
