UHS Students Gear Up for Friday’s Pep Assembly
When it comes to the Homecoming Pep Assembly many freshmen do not have any idea what the assembly will be like.
“I don’t know what to expect… lots of pep,” said Freshmen Audrey Spears.
Every year on the Friday of spirit week (also known as homecoming week), the school holds s a pep assembly. The pep assembly lets students show their tiger pride along with their class pride through various games and activities sponsored by Student Senate.
Some students are not so crazy about the pep assembly. “It is stupid and there is no point to it, we should just get out early,” said Junior Noah Gerhmann.
During the pep assembly there is usually have a guest speaker that tells about their past at Urbana High School. Last year guest speaker was Ella Masar, a former student of Urbana that exceeded in both academics and athletics. Masar attended the University of Illinois where she played soccer and now plays professionally for the Chicago Red Stars.
The homecoming court is also announced during the assembly. Last year’s homecoming king and queen, who are always seniors, were Kyle Clevenger and Ericka Marion. Coaches and captions of all UHS sports, not just fall sports, get a chance to talk about their season. The cheerleaders are also a big part of the assembly. They pick the winners of the spirit week days. They also perform a choreographed dance.
“I love it because it is so exciting and invigorating,” said Senior Mahmoud Fouly.
