attack

The new self titled album from Attack Attack! is sure to blow your mind away. Electro beeps and skips mixed in with lung busting screams, is enough to get you to keep this CD on repeat for days. Even through the screams they do have non-screaming vocals, so even if you aren’t a fan of screamo you should give this a try. Some of the good half and half (vocals and screams) tracks are “Fumbles O Brian” and “Shut Your Mouth.” But if you are into the hardcore screams and mosh pit head banging, then you are also in for a treat. “A For Andrew” is a very good sick hardcore track, it has a bone shattering bass and the drums are amazing. “AC-130” and “Renob,Nevada” are some of my absolute favorites…so far I haven’t found any cussing in the lyrics so it is officially clean. Now I want to give you a little run down on some great tracks.

2. Renob, Nevada- This actually starts out like what you would think a Slipknot song would sound like usually. You have a very fierce blow of guitar to start off the track and the drums come pounding in behind the rest. Caleb gives a hearty scream and charges into his screaming verses, as Andrew Whiting (guitar) plows into his chords behind. Then it all slows and mixes into a calm fusion to let the non-screaming verses come into play, then they give a few seconds of calmness, followed by screams. You also have electro going in the mix with the music in the background, then you come back to the softness of Caleb and Johnny’s voices and the electro comes into the track, synchronizing and altering it. Then it all fades and the metal overpowers the softness. The screams and earsplitting guitar/bass lead us all the way to the end; accompanied by Andrew Wetzel striking the drums till the track fades.

Shut Your Mouth- Comes into the track with power surges, and electro bursts. Then Caleb comes in with major synchronizing with Johnny also on back-up. Caleb and Johnny belt out the verses and then get skipped out into the electronic beat. Johnny and Caleb go at it and then it gets chopped and screwed again. The drums are following in the back and the guitar is playing a little of a part in this track, but not that much as the other tracks, considering the electronic vibe. The electronic blend is overpowering everything. It all ends with skips and beeps, and then the chorus fades out into an electro river.

Fumbles O Brian- Hip-hop goes metal? A little something new. “ATTACK ATTACK!, WE BACK AGAIN BABY”, they are definitely back with something mind blowing. Starts off with powerful guitar riffs and soft singing from Johnny, then Caleb destroys and bombs it with screams. Electro jumps in and Johnny kills the chorus with his squeaky voice, he continues with the calmness, then Caleb jumps in and reminds us of the screamo/metal aspect but doesn’t overdo it with the death core screams like in the track “A For Andrew.” Then Johnny jumps into the hip-hop Breathe Carolina type of mix, he slows it down, props it up with the electro mood, but still keeps the pop in the track. Synchronizing was thrown in over Caleb and Johnny’s voices to fit the electro assortment, then it slows down and pauses then fills it with the bass/guitar and Johnny kills the chorus once more. They end it with a few more guitar chords and then bam it’s over…but it left you speechless, right? If not listen to again!

Lonely-Last track and a slow crazy way to end it that is for certain. Classical piano starts us on this lonely last adventure. Caleb and Johnny punch out the verses to the hyper pounding beat in the background. The guitar flows into the electro ballad. The piano increases and Caleb’s gritty voice tearing up the 2nd verse, he puts emotion into this compelling track. The bleeps and skips of electro passion pick up and become faster. Johnny’s voice fades into the back of the track a little. Everything stops for a seconds and then soar back in, Caleb and Johnny kill the chorus. It all fades out and you think it is over. Then a jolt of piano and completely screwed screams pop into the end. It’s like rave music sick and fast, it gives you a blow from all the explosions of sound…it begins to fade out slow like scary horror movie carnival music, with a bang it stops for 3 seconds. Then it is recharged and restarts the process. The beat grows faster and more in depth then it just crashes with an electro whirlwind of sounds. It leaves you thinking three things. One: Is my stereo broken? Two: What just happened? Three: I need to hear that again.

Attack Attack! will not disappoint at all, but it’s up to you to make that call. My review has given you a rundown of the power-packed multi-genre album. This is a very different screamo band and it is very addicting. This is an album I think you would be ashamed to not have in your collection of CD’s in your holder. Consider this my musical education to you. They are enough to satisfy my hunger for a good screamo fix, but are they yours? Are you willing to give this “lesson” a try, because I give this album a straight up A+, no doubt about it. You decide what do you think they deserve?
