All About Leprechauns
Ever since you were a child, you have probably heard about leprechauns when St. Patrick’s Day gets close. Surprisingly though, few people really know the legend behind these small little guys.
Leprechauns are notorious for being mischievous. If you come across a leprechaun and capture it (see below for how to capture a leprechaun), legend has it that you will receive three wishes. As the captor you must look the leprechaun straight in the eye, and if you blink the leprechaun will disappear. Since leprechauns are mischievous they will try to trick you into looking away, and if he tricks you all hope is lost.
There is always the legend that leprechauns hide their pot of gold in the rainbow. If you come across a leprechaun and capture it, then it will give you a pot of gold. However, legend has it that in that as soon as you get the pot of gold, all the the gold will disappear.
These are the two main legends that are told about leprechauns. Now that you know all about those little green fellows, you can make your own trap to catch one. This trap won’t necessarily catch a leprechaun, but you will be able to tell if he has been there if there is gold dust in or around the box.
Necessary Materials for Building a Leprechaun Trap
1) Lucky Charms Cereal – The bait after all, The Lucky Charm mascot is a leprechaun which explains why the leprechauns enjoy this cereal.
2) Gold Coin-Leprechauns are not only mischievous, but are very
greedy too…this will also be used as bait.
3) A tissue box- The base for the trap.
4) Crayons- Used for decorating the box.
6) Green Stickers and Glitter- This is used to decorate
the box and make it green, because green is a leprechaun’s favorite color.
5) Doll furniture- You want to make the leprechaun feel at home.
How to Make Your Leprechaun Trap
1) First, decorate the box with crayons, stickers, and glitter. (Make sure the box has lots of green on it.)
2) Second, tear out the clear flap where tissues come out. After you tear the plastic off there will be a hole in which the leprechaun can enter.
3) Third, arrange an assortment of doll furniture in the box so the box looks homey and inviting. Hopefully, the leprechaun will think it is a home for them and come and visit it.
4) Fourth, put the gold coins and cereal in the box (this is the bait which will lure the leprechaun to your trap).
5) Last, set the trap in a place where you think is best and wait for a leprechaun to appear. Good luck and Happy St. Patrick’s Day!!
