Winter Assembly Surprise
This year the winter assembly ended with a huge surprise. To the students amazement, a number of teachers came out to sing a play instruments for the school. “The Staff singing and playing was awesome, “ said Junior Jasmine White.
The winter assembly was a fun way to end the week before break.
The winter assembly celebrated not only Christmas, but Hanukkah and Kwanzaa, as well. It also was a time for the various music groups to showcase their talent and perform in from of the student body. “The Winter Assembly is a nice time to generate a positive attitude in the school,” said Mr. Hicks.
The assembly started with the Wind Symphony, directed by Darren Hicks, playing ‘A Hanukkah Celebration.’ Followed by the UHS orchestra playing ‘Tam Ly,’ ‘Excerpt from Basses Loaded,’ and ‘Rosin Eating Zombies.’ Next VCR (Vocal Chords Required) sang ‘Joy to the World Medley’ and ‘Crazy Little Thing Called Love.’
Finally, the UHS choir sang a number of holiday songs with wonderful solos by Konner Williford, Sean Smith, Miranda Mammen and Michael Giboney.“I hope students just have fun and realize how fun the holidays are,” said Sophomore Mikhayla Eveland, who performed in Wind Symphony at the event.
The winter assembly was a nice treat and a well needed break from third period. “It is a nice thing to ‘give’ the school during this holiday season,” said Hicks. Thank you to all the staff and students who were in the assembly and made it possible.
