SYTYCD Tour Review
I absolutely adored the show. I’m a huge fan of the television production, so watching my favorite dancers glide around the stage right in front of me was amazing. Their talent isn’t properly displayed on the small screen- the intricate details of the Bollywood dance hand movements and the throwing of Jason and Jeanine’s necklace in their contemporary piece simply cannot be fully enjoyed without witnessing it in person. Riveting light spectacles and base-pumping music accompanied the dances throughout the show, creating an in-your-face experience.
My favorite dance of the show was Kayla and Kupono’s addiction performance. Kupono served as the addiction that was suffocating Kayla slowly, and keeping her from leading a fulfilling life. Kupono was visibly moved by the piece (he had a friend who went through a life-threatening addiction cycle) and left the stage crying. I commend him for his strength at being able to perform such a difficult piece and send out props to Kayla who, as always, brings a breath of fresh air to the stage every time she dances.
What really struck me about the whole show was the dancers seemed full of life and excitement to be performing. This was their ninth performance of a 40-show tour, so they were probably just getting into the swing of things. I wish all of the dancers good luck with the rest of the tour, and thank them for treating C-U to a spectacular night of dance!
